Karolina Cicha & Bart Pałyga – New concert material

After a series of concerts in Poland and abroad, Cicha and Pałyga are coming back to the Podlasie region again on their musical journey. The new concert material is a continuation of the Tatar motif of the “9 Languages” album.

The coming season for the artists will be dominated by a musical heritage of Polish Tatars. During the concert one can hear archaic scales of Asian grasslands and Turkish-like melodies of Crimean Tatars. You can listen to such instruments as “kabyz” or steppe “dothar” that could be played whilst horse-riding and hear Tatar songs, for example, „Tugan tyl” (a song from the 19th century about the beauty of a language of The Volga Tartars) or „Ej Gizel Kirim” (a song composed after the expulsion of Crimean Tartars in 1944).

    The original
music of the Tatars that came to Poland in the 14
    th
century did not survive. Tatars flourished their oriental cuisine,
archery, old customs and religion, but music was not their domain.
Probably it faded away together with their language, while musical
tradition among their kinsmen in Asia is still very rich. These
traces help the artists to reconstruct how the music that came to
Poland with the Tatars centuries ago could sound like.
