Simon Broughton:
This was the 30th anniversary of Mikołajki Folkowe Festival (…) rounded of the everything the highlight was Karolina Cicha, one of the most interesting and versatile musicians on the Polish folk scene. She made her name with ‘Wieloma Językami / Nine Languages’, an album with lirics written in all of Poland’s minority vernaculars, follownig it with two Tatar language albums and the recent TANY, drawing on music from her native Podlasie.(…) As impressive as the personal sometimes authobiographical nature of the songs themselves was the musicians’ willingness to embrace other musical traditions, picking up non-native instruments like kamancheh, saz and oud. One of the songs ‘Mourning Fading Youth’ is authobiographical for all of us!
